“One Billion Rising 2026: Laoang Rises for Our Bodies, Our Earth, Our Future
At 6:00 AM, the Laoang Covered Court in Laoang was filled with energy, unity, and a shared commitment to women’s empowerment as the Local Government Unit (LGU), together with various agencies and offices, gathered for the 2026 One Billion Rising campaign with the theme, “Rise for Our Bodies, Our Earth, Our Future.” Hosted by the Laoang 1 District, the event started with a motorcade around the municipality, symbolizing solidarity and raising awareness for the advocacy.
The program formally began with a solemn prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the Himno San Laoang, setting a tone of unity and shared purpose among all participants. The Sangguniang Bayan of Laoang, headed by Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Luke Jensen Detera, also expressed full support for this event, reinforcing the municipality’s commitment to empowering women and promoting gender equality.
The program opened with inspiring remarks from Ms. Epigenia Po, emphasizing the importance of collective action in advancing women’s rights and ending violence against women. Ms. Mary Grace Doroin delivered a meaningful message highlighting continued efforts toward empowerment and gender equality. OIC Mayor Hon. Frederick Deananeas expressed his strong support for women, reaffirming the LGU’s commitment to gender-responsive programs and safe, inclusive spaces. Furthermore, Municipal GAD Coordinator Ms. Julie Ann Balanquit extended her heartfelt gratitude to all attendees, partner agencies, and offices whose active participation contributed to the success of the event.
The activity concluded with an energetic Zumba exercise, symbolizing strength, resilience, and unity. Through their enthusiastic involvement, participants truly embodied the spirit of One Billion Rising — standing together to rise for women’s dignity, for the protection of our bodies and environment, and for a brighter, more inclusive future for all.”
