“GSU joins “One Billion Rising 2025 – Rise for Freedom” Campaign

“The last gasp of patriarchy which knows its days are numbered, but may take us all out if we do not rise and take action.”

In a powerful act of solidarity, Guimaras State University (GSU), led by University President Dr. Lilian Diana B. Parreño, joined the global movement “One Billion Rising 2025 – Rise for Freedom” on February 24, 2025. With a fervent mob dance that pulsed with energy and defiance, GSU made it clear: silence is not an option in the face of oppression.

Adding to the symbolism of the movement, students, faculty, and staff wore pink ribbons as a sign of resistance and hope for a future free from oppression and violence.

One Billion Rising is more than a campaign—It is a call to dismantle the shackles of religious suppression and control, the deceit of fear-mongering media, and the patriarchal, misogynistic cultures that thrive on exclusion and inequality. It is a fierce rejection of chronic capitalism that plunders resources, exacerbates poverty, and fuels militarization while essential social services crumble. It is an unrelenting stand against the control and violation of women’s bodies, the demonization of immigrants, the perpetuation of racism, and the devastation wrought by wars and occupations.

In 2025, resistance must be OUTRAGEOUS. BOLD. UNITED. FIERCE. RADICAL.
