“Guimaras State University-Mosqueda Campus actively participated in the international One Billion Rising campaign on February 24, 2025, demonstrating solidarity in the global movement to end violence against women. With the theme “Rise for Freedom,” the event aimed to raise awareness and inspire action toward gender equality and women’s rights.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, a short program took place. It began with the reading of the rationale by Instr. Loveson C. Gallos, BSIS Program Head and GAD Coordinator, followed by a prayer to end Violence Against Women (VAW). Dr. Kert D. Pillora, the Mosqueda Campus Director, and Dr. Lea P. Ymalay, BSCS Program Head and SAS Coordinator, delivered their messages, emphasizing the importance of gender equality and the fight against violence towards women.The highlight of the event was the One Billion Rising Dance, symbolizing unity and advocacy against gender-based violence. The Gender and Development (GAD) office, under the leadership of Instructor Gallos, led the initiative, bringing together students, faculty, and staff in a collective stand for women’s rights and empowerment.

The One Billion Rising campaign, a global movement initiated in 2012, seeks to highlight the alarming statistics of violence against women, calling for collective efforts to create safer and more just societies. The participation of Guimaras State University reflects its commitment to promoting gender equality and fostering a culture of respect and inclusivity within the academic community.”
