A Remarkable Day of Collaboration and Empowerment at National Pentecostal School!

Last week, I had the privilege of visiting National Pentecostal as the Network Coordinator for Kids Radio, where I delivered a collaboration letter to the principal with the aim of establishing a creative team of children for our radio programs. Today, I was invited back to sensitize the students during their school assembly, and it was truly a day filled with inspiration.

Upon arrival, I discovered that the school was hosting a remarkable initiative by the organization One Billion Rising Sierra Leone, under the theme “REACHING OUT TO END GENDER BASED VIOLENCE IN SIERRA LEONE.” This initiative, in partnership with the Center for Research and Empowerment of Women (CREEW) and the Ministry of Gender Affairs, aimed to raise awareness and empower the community to stand against gender-based violence.

To bring the message to life, the school organized a Music and Drama Competition. The Drama Team emerged as the winners, followed by the Music Team, which included talented visually impaired gentlemen, taking second place. The Melodrama Team claimed the third position. The creativity and commitment of these students was nothing short of inspiring.

As a Storyteller, Playwright, and Children’s Network Coordinator for Kids Radio, I was honored to judge the competition and witness firsthand the power of youth in raising awareness about such a critical issue. I also had the opportunity to introduce the exciting collaboration between Kids Radio and the school, explaining how we aim to build a creative team of children who will actively participate in radio programs designed to empower and inspire young voices.

This initiative is incredibly important as it empowers young people to use their talents for positive social change, while also addressing key issues like gender-based violence. The students’ energy and passion were a testament to the fact that children are not only the leaders of tomorrow but are already making a significant impact today.

We are excited about the partnership and the incredible potential of these young minds as we work together to create an impactful platform for the youth of Sierra Leone.
