Activists around the world are rising!
One Billion Rising is the largest global campaign to stop violence against women and girls (cisgender and transgender), gender expansive people, and the Earth. One Billion Rising has become a movement of yearly radical artistic risings around the world to confront all oppressive systems that intersect with gender-based violence, including patriarchy, imperialism, capitalism, colonialism, white supremacy, homophobia, transphobia, war, and violence to our earth. From February through April, we rise – in countries across the world – to shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face and to celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.
In 2025, we escalate our Risings to be a powerful force against the devastation happening in the world today – the rise of fascism – and how all of this affects women in particular. We invite communities to organize Risings – calls for collective action to resist authoritarianism, threats to our bodies and environmental destruction.
