INNABUYOG JOINS ONE BILLION RISING PH LAUNCH

In commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Innabuyog-Gabriela Youth leads the Baguio leg of the launching of the One Billion Rising PH 2024.

Themed, “Rise for Freedom”, the gathering shed light on the urgent issues faced by indigenous women and their communities, who not only grapple with threats to their ancestral lands but also endure various forms of violence as a consequence of their fight for their rights as women and as indigenous peoples to land, life, and resources.

Worst of these instances are the alarming bombings of rural communities in Apayao, Kalinga, and Abra, highlighting the harsh reality of the challenges faced by these women as they assert their rights against formidable opposition.

The arbitrary designation of land and environment defenders, including women, as terrorists further accentuates the gravity of the situation. This unjust labeling adds an additional layer of risk and intimidation to those bravely standing up for the rights of indigenous communities.

Let us stand together and #RiseForFreedom from wars of aggression; #RiseForFreedom from the militarization of indigenous communities, and #RiseForFreedom from all forms of violence and oppression.
