National Women’s Convention

Feb 12, 2019 – 9 am to 6 pm

Constitution Club of India, New Delhi

Organized by OBR India in collaboration with ANHAD, MKSS, PUCL and SNS

OBR India, ANHAD, MKSS, PUCL, and SNS are organizing a National Women’s Convention on February 12, 2019 at the Constitution Club, New Delhi to safeguard the Indian Constitution and its values.

The aim of the convention is to unite voices of dissent against the targeted attacks on the Constitutional rights of women in India. With the growth of the overall violence in society there is a deep impact on the lives of women. The mob lynching by the cow vigilantes, honour killings etc. have become a daily affair. Attacks on Muslims, Dalits and Christians are creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.

During the last few years, there has been a frontal attack on the Constitution, on freedom of expression, which impacts all women. This includes our right to speak, dress, speak, write, eat and choose. In addition, the neo-liberal economic policies have not only adversely impacted Indian women in general, but those of us who are Dalits, Adivasis and people already marginalized in this country. Their fragile economic base has been devastated.

As women and as citizens we are witnessing a steady deterioration in the rule of law, and the basic constitutional commitment to equality. Through this convention, we want to reclaim our rights and to aim for a more peaceful, just and non-violent society.

This is an open convention. We invite women from across India to join us!
