“The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Caraga as the chair of the Regional Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking and Violence Against Wowen and their Children (RIACAT-VAWC) and Regional Committee for the Welfare of Children (RCWC), led the 1 Billion Rising Dance: Babae, babangon!, in time with its capability development activity on Feb. 28, 2025 in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.

The member agencies of RIACAT-VAWC, to include the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga vowed to continue to promote women’s empowerment, gender equality and equity, and gender mainstreaming. RIACAT-VAWC members also calls on everyone to intensify advocacy against violence and abuse to women and their children [which starts at home].

One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence) in human history.
The campaign, which launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.”
