“Gabriela Hong Kong, co-organizer of One Billion Rising, gathered almost 500 women last Sunday 2 March 2025 at Chater Road Central Hong Kong with the theme “Stop Violence Against Women and Girls.” The event was participated in by other women migrant workers from Indonesian, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Thai. Migrants’ rights advocates also joined the event and gave solidarity messages. It was also important to ensure the active participation of all working women and girls, such that the OBR committee had an interpreter for the hard of hearing community, who showed up and participated.

Several booths were also set up with unique decorations and displayed useful and educational materials which they can use as a tool to empower migrant women. “The exhibition booth is one of the highlights in the event; the artworks descriptively expressing the women’s struggle and reasons of resistance were displayed,” explained Shiela Tebia, chairperson of Gabriela HK.

In the program, women migrants continue to rally in their call to recognise their rights as workers. They also mentioned their vital economic contribution to Hong Kong. They were rising also to call for an inclusive society and equal rights for all.

Mission For Migrant Workers also sponsored free services such as blood glucose test, massage, chiropractor, employment guidance, and other free services as their thanksgiving to the support of migrant workers to the institution.

The event was not only a celebration but also as a commemoration of International Working Women’s Month to express the struggles of women and issues of continuing economic and political abuse. They reiterated the importance of arousing, organizing, and mobilizing to win the battle against all forms of exploitation and to continue to empower not only women but also the working class.”
