We wish to spotlight for the South African Government @Grobblerhoop in the @Northern Cape. We took a 1200 km drive with Esmarelda V Mckay – coordinator of One Billion Rising West Coast. Thank you V-Day for supporting this trip.

We met a Young Woman Leader Brontê Janine Janeve Smith who is the Leader of Women Enough, an organization that works in the Gender Based Violence field, with absolutely zero resources or support.

We were invited to meet with Women from 4 neighboring communities. We had deep conversations with local women and they told me stories of rape, abuse, no services, feelings of being trapped, continous physical violence and we sat there listening and we are asking the spotlighting question this morning – where are the services? Where are the budgets for Grobblershoop, who do we keep accountable?

We’ve been sent information of a woman who was hit with a stone and went blind, nothing happened to the perpetrator, and videos of children scavenging on the dump, and videos of men viciously beating Wwomen and just no services for women. Where is the Northern Cape Government?

The stories of rape stories, upon rape stories, upon rape stories.

The Northern Cape is still a Province in South Africa!

Commission for Gender Equality we are flagging Globlershoop for your attention in the Northern Cape, and we include South African Police Service Civilian Secretariat for Police Service.
