For International Day to End Violence against Women (IDEVAW), on the global launch of OBR 2025, and in commemoration of the one year anniversary since the death of Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay, Sabukohan Unity of Lumad Women held a forum in Davao City for students, teachers and informal women workers.

Together with Gabriela Youth Davao, Gabriela Women’s Partylist Southern Mindanao Region, and Women Studies and Resource Center, we highlighted Indigenous women’s struggle against systemic abuse including environmental destruction, militarization, forcible displacement, and the criminalization of activism.

The community was then invited to write down on a paper butterfly their reflections, calls to action, and commitment to ending violence against women and share it to a community board. KATRIBU Coordinator Beverly Longid presented the current situation for National Minorities. Gabriela Women’s Partylist, Doctor Jean Lindo, led the community for One Billion Rising and with a One Billion Rising dance. Solidarity messages were given by members of Alliance of Concerned Teachers, United Church of Christ in the Philippines, Bankerohan Vendors Association, and Sisters Association in Mindanao.

Long live Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay and her legacy of persistent struggle to defend Pantaron Range and to advance the rights of women!

Innabuyog Gabriela (regional alliance for various indigenous women’s groups in the Cordillera region, and long time OBR organizers since 2013) lead IDEVAW action in solidarity with the global launch of One Billion Rising 2025

In celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (IDEVAW), Innabuyog-Gabriela launches the IDEVAW Fair which will run from November 25-29 at Court A, UP Baguio, Philippines.

The IDEVAW is themed “Walls of Resistance: A Tribute to Cordillera Women Asserting Land, Rights, and Dignity.” Meanwhile, the fair highlights products crafted by women across the Cordillera and serves as a platform to resist state-perpetuated violence and tyranny.

Present at the launch event are Marcylyn Pilala and Jennifer Awingan, both of whom faced terrorist-related charges. Pilala faces Terrorist Financing case while Awingan is currently facing charges related to terrorism, alongside other Cordilleran leaders.

“Ang IDEVAW is to End Violence against women… naaayon sa kasalukyang kalagayan [ng Cordillera] kasi nga nahaharap tayo sa gawa-gawang kaso… Hopefully, sa pagcelebrate natin nitong IDEVAW, hopefully positive ang results ng DOJ na madismiss ang kaso dahil walang batayan, walang katotohan ang kaso laban sa akin,” said Pilala in an interview. (“IDEVAW is to end violence against women – in accordance with our current situation in the Cordilleras where we are facing trumped up charges ……Hopefully, in our celebrating IDEVAW, the results from the Department of Justice for my case will be positive – that they will dismiss the case that has no basis, and no truth”).

The IDEVAW fair features Walls of Resistance: a photo exhibit, workshops and cultural events, and all-women flag raisers.
