On International Women’s Day, Our Gratitude for
25 Years of Global Grassroots Art & Activism,
RISING for Freedom & Creating the New Culture
This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the survivors, activists and artists whose grassroots art and activism have created our global activist movement to end violence against women, gender expansive people, girls and the planet. YOUR work and voice have played a central role in the V-Day story and for that you have our gratitude, always. For 25 years, V-Day has unleashed vast grassroots, anti-violence work on college campuses and in communities – visionary work that has been survivor-led and focused, all the while revealing the power of art and activism to change culture and systems.
In 2023, activists in 92 countries are rising for freedom and to create the new culture as One Billion Rising events are taking place and will continue through 22 April, Earth Day. Creative resistance events take various forms from flash mobs to documentary films, candlelight vigils to trainings with men, night walks to pride marches and more. We call on the world to use Art. Dance. Theater. Film. Visual Art. Photography. Sculpture. Painting. Sports. Performance. And more.
RISE FOR FREEDOM – Freedom from Patriarchy and from all its progeny….capitalism, impunity, poverty, oppression, division, exploitation, shame, control, individualism, greed, violence…and in this Rising…CREATE THE NEW CULTURE.
