Documenting the Revolution

Sharing, Documenting and Livestreaming your Rising

For the past three years, on 14 February, Risings took place around the world, in hundreds of cities, in virtually every country on earth.

We have made history. In 2016, we Rise for Revolution and we want to world to witness every sight and sound of this extraordinary global action. HERE’S HOW!

Please heavily document your event. We’re especially interested in Photos and Videos.

On the day of your rising, please share your photos, video and audio updates with the global audience! Before and during the events, whether on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Vine, Facebook, or Soundcloud, post using our hashtags and we’ll include them on our digital hub at onebillionrising.org and for everyone to see.

For video, make sure you’re also keeping full-resolution versions of what you share – we’ll want to gather it after your event.

Note – you will need to post a Public Filming Notice at your venue, and if you interview people about the rising, it would be wonderful if you can have them sign release forms so that we can use the footage for V-Day’s uses on our website, or film, etc. You can download these HERE.

Document and share everything you do for One Billion Rising for Revolution. Share your photos, video and audio updates with the global audience!

Before and during the events, whether on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Vine, Facebook, or Soundcloud, post using our hashtags and we’ll include them on our digital hub at onebillionrising.org and for everyone to see.

Streaming your event LIVE

In the last few years, streaming technology and the general public’s comfort with it has come a long way, making them much more accessible. Using the apps and platforms below you can now livestream your event from your phone, tablet or computer. Capture the flashmob, an art piece, activists sharing why they RISE or the whole event live from your phone.

So if you want to broadcast the revolution in real time, here are some options:

In no particular order, Periscope, the Twitter based app allows you to stream your event on Twitter to your followers directly to your phone (iPhone & Android) Ustream (iOS & Android, computer), Livestream (iOS & Android, computer), Google Hangouts On Air (Android (sort of), computer), or YouTube Live (computer).

How-to’s and other instructions are available on each company’s website.

Your choice will depend on your level of comfort with the technology and the circumstances unique to your rising. There are a few basic questions you should ask yourself to help guide your decision:

  1. Is your location indoors or outdoors?
  2. Do you need your camera to be mobile or can you be static?
  3. Will you have a wifi or a hard-wired internet connection? will you be relying on 3G / 4G / LTE data connections?
  4. Do you have a budget?

Above all, we encourage you to not let the perfect become the enemy of the good. It is the energy on the ground, not just the quality of the footage on the internet, that makes an One Billion Rising Revolution worth sharing with the world.
