Jogja is rising!
While preparing for One Billion Rising, Thursday night, we heard that Mount Kelud -200 km away from Jogja- was errupting. Ashes started to fall, and at dawn our city turned grey and gloomy. Online meeting was set up. Should we keep dancing while our sisters and brothers were struggling in disaster?
We realized that One Billion Rising Jogja 2014 should focus more on sexual abuse during disaster, considering Indonesia are now facing natural disaster everywhere.
At 3 PM, 60 of hundreds registered participants gathered in Taman Budaya Yogyakarta. Decision was made. We danced through the ashes in order to show the spirit of fighting sexual abuse in any condition. Afterwards we had reflection time, praying for the disaster victims all over Indonesia and arranging plan to help them, especially the women and children.
