The 4th Asia Pacific Feminist Forum 2024 (hosted by APWLD – Asia Pacific Forum On Women, Law and Development) was held in Chiangmai, Thailand last September 12th to 14th.
“The Asia Pacific Feminist Forum (APFF) is a three day feminist convening organized by APWLD, and is a tri-annual event which brings together feminists, activists, and Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) from all subregions of Asia and the Pacific. In those three days, feminists come together to celebrate our collective achievements, deepen feminist knowledge, and strengthen our linkages and solidarities with each other.
Under the theme of ‘Feminist World-Building: Creative Energies, Collective Journeys’, feminists across the region will come together at the fourth APFF to share our journeys, and build a roadmap that leads us to the feminist world we have dreamed of for decades.”
One Billion Rising (OBR) Asia coordinators from Indonesia, the Philippines, Cambodia, Thailand, Hong Kong and Mongolia were part of the conference as speakers and participants. One Billion Rising groups in the region also took part – from the Philippines (Amihan, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Gabriela, Center for Women’s Research), Hong Kong (Gabriela HK), Indonesia (Seruni) and Mongolia (Beautiful Hearts Against Sexual Violence). These OBR Asia coordinators and OBR Asia groups have been responsible for some of the largest and most dynamic risings across the region for the last thirteen years.
Seruni (OBR Indonesia national coordinators and organizers) also held “Women Rise Up” – Agroecology Practices of Rural Women in Asia. They shared how rural women are leading the charge for climate-resilient agriculture, protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable food systems.
OBR Asia coordinators, organizers/activists were part of the 500 grassroots activists who took part – envisioning a feminist world of #DevelopmentJustice, demanding #ClimateJustice, #SocialistFuture, #SystemicChange, Access and #SocialEquality for all. Under the theme “How We Get There” – activists shared skills, tools, strategies need for the collective journey towards a #FeministWorld that is free and just. (APWLD)
