On 4 February 2013, in the European Parliament plenary debate on the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls, Ms Reding first announced that she will join One Billion Rising, and that she is advocating for continued and increased EU funding for programmes on preventing and responding to violence against women, including training for practitioners in the justice system:
