About The Event

Screening of "The Red Detachment of Women", a film of a revolutionary ballet created during the Cultural Revolution in China—when China was a genuine socialist society, before the restoration of capitalism in 1976. The extraordinary ballet takes place in the 1930s during the war of liberation, and depicts a young woman slave who escapes a brutal landlord and joins a women’s detachment of the Red Army.
