About The Event

1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. Every February, we rise – in hundreds of countries across the world – to show our local communities and the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors most often face.  We rise through dance to express joy and community and and celebrate the fact that we have not been defeated by this violence. We rise to show we are determined to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable. THIS YEAR, WE ARE RISING IN SOLIDARITY AGAINST THE EXPLOITATION OF WOMEN.

About The Organization

The Rape Crisis Center

2015 brought us to an important milestone: our 40-year anniversary. In these past 40 years, the Center strived to become a resource to the community and the place that people can turn to when faced with sexual violence in their own life or in the life of their loved ones. As consistently demonstrated by client acknowledgements, referrals from other helping agencies, and funding sources, The Rape Crisis Center has a solid reputation for providing quality services and improving service delivery through partnerships and collaborations at the local, state, and national levels.

We are the only sexual assault program in Bexar County, but we look to continue to be a model organization for other centers across the state and nation, paving the way for a transformed—and transformational—response to violence and abuse. We will continue in our mission to heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse, and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.

As we look toward our future, we invite you to read about some of the milestones from The Rape Crisis Center’s 2014 Annual Report that have brought us even closer to our vision of a world without sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse.
