About The Event
Join local organizations to promote justice for women and girls in Tulare County and around the globe. One Billion Rising is a global movement to end violence against women and girls based on the staggering United Nations statistic that one in three women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at seven billion, this adds up to more than one billion women and girls.
You are invited to march in Downtown Visalia to examine this injustice, celebrate progress, and help unite our community to find ways to end violence against women and girls. The event begins at 4 p.m. at Garden Street Plaza in Downtown Visalia. Shortly thereafter, participants will walk down Main Street, handing carnations to passers-by with information about local resources for victims of violence. The event will culminate in a celebration back at the Garden Street Plaza with music, dancing, and resource booths. Participants are encouraged to wear red, pink, or black. All ages are welcome. Organizers include: ACT for Women and Girls, The Alliance for Teen Health and Pregnancy Prevention, American Association of University Women (AAUW), Visalia-Sequoia Branch, Family Services of Tulare County, League of Women Voters of Tulare County, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Tulare County Chapter; Soroptimist International of Visalia.
