About The Event
On Valentine’s Day, Sydney feminists, activists, unionists and community members will join thousands of their counterparts around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the biggest global mass action to end violence against women. The Sydney event will take place at Hyde Park (South, near Pool of Reflection) on 14 February 2018, 5 pm.
In Sydney, a group of grassroots organisations (Asian Women at Work Inc, GABRIELA, Immigrant Women’s Speakout Association, We Can Be Sheroes, Women’s March, UnionsNSW, United Against Domestic Violence, etc) will host this year’s One Billion Rising.
The highlight of the Sydney event will be the powerful collective community dance to the global One Billion Rising anthem “Break the Chain”. The dance will unleash the collective energy to create awareness and rally community support in the fight to eliminate all forms of violence against women. The dance will celebrate the collective strength to show that despite the relentless attack on women, they remain committed, ever strong, ever resilient to build a world where violence on women is not tolerated and perpetuated.
One Billion Rising Sydney event will be emceed by Zoe Carides, actor.
