For more information, please call Kelley Ries, Public Health Nurse, at 978-325-5266 For Immediate Release February 6, 2017 ONE BILLION RISING The Gloucester Coalition for the Prevention of Domestic Abuse, Strong Men Don’t Bully, HAWC, the YWCA North Shore Rape Crisis Center and the City of Gloucester invite you to join ONE BILLION RISING TO STOP VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS RAISE A THUNDERCLAP AND JOIN THE GLOBAL CAMPAIGN! On Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at City Hall, Gloucester will join with activists from around the world for ONE BILLION RISING, the largest action in the history of V-Day, the global activist movement to bring an end to violence against women and girls. ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion this adds up to more than one billion girls and women. On February 14, Mayor Sefatia Romeo-Theken will lead our cry for justice, and our resolution that Gloucester will not look the other way, and that we will continue to seek justice for victims and survivors of abuse. Mayor Sefatia Romeo-Theken notes: “Domestic abuse and sexual assault are crimes that too often remain hidden.
