Justice is not being served.
Justice is young women not having to fear being one in three. Justice is girls being raised in a society that teaches men not to rape or participate in gender violence rather than teaching women how to avoid it as if it were inevitable. Justice is treating victims of sexual assault with respect and support instead of seeing them as broken.
Women should feel that they can share their stories without judgment for the sake of promoting a safer environment in the future. Victims should be able to trust their legal system and report their attack. The legal system should employ the proper tools to produce acceptable prosecution and conviction rates.
Justice is girls and women feeling safe no matter who they are, where they are, or what they look like.
