Justice here in eastern Kentucky looks like sustainable energy. The loss of life due to mountain top removal is outrageous. Birth defects and cancer rates are disproportionately high and poverty rates are sky rocketing. The environmental damages are irreversible. Justice will happen when all of the “Friends of Coal” stickers say, “Friends of Appalachia” and people realize their love for coal is a love for economic disparity, environmental destruction, and a loss of life. The women in Appalachia need environmental justice. I need environmental justice.
