About The Event

Dance party, launch party, screening, and premiere for “Why I Dance,” a pole dance film about women who come together to reclaim their bodies and themselves. The event will feature live drumming, dancing, slam poets, pole dancing, musicians, screenings, live art, photography, feminist speakers, and general bad-assery in honor of women, and the spirits that move us. Profits from the event will benefit The California Women's Law Center.

Amy Main, Sascha Alexander, Julia Roth, and Melanie Zoey Weinstein

Melanie is an actress, writer and director known for creating funny, sex positive content for the stage, web and screen. Melanie wrote, produced and acted in Sex and the Holy Land, which sold-out in both The New York International Fringe Festival and the Fringe Encore Series. Her comedy shorts "I'm Sorry" and "Weinstein" can be watched at melaniezoey.com. Sascha's writing has been featured on the front-pages of Jezebel, Comediva, and Funny or Die, and her acting credits include "Bones," "Days of Our Lives," Dreamworks's "Fifi: Cat Therapist" and the original one-woman show about pole dance and body acceptance "Naked and Crazy." Amy is a writer, actress, producer, and pole dancing enthusiast who has worked for Honda, "Veronica Mars," "Walk Hard," and the upcoming "Dirty." Her true-life blog "40 Dates in 40 Nights" was featured in the LA Times in 2015. Born and raised in Los Angeles CA, Julia is a yogi, feminist, and dedicated world-changer. After attending NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for theater, she entered the professional film world on HBO's True Detective, going on to work on Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and 22 Jump St, and later producing several independent shorts and creative content for production company Soul Pancake. She is in her first two months at Sheila Kelley S-Factor, where she figures she'll probably stay for the rest of her life.
