Two events as part of One Billion Rising at Lamakaan, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad from 3 pm to 6:30 pm
Event 1 - Movie: 'Beyond the Veil': 52 mins
Beyond the Veil directed by Anusha Nandakumar is the story of two strong women. One Sughra Fatima, a teenager who comes from a large Muslim family who fought with her family to take up boxing as a sport and excelled at it. The other her mother: Rukshana Begum who got married, had children and was satisfied with her life till her husband's illness proved to be a setback. In order to support her family, she took to singing popular Hindi songs in bars and marriages secretly.
Event 2 - 'Voices from History'
Voices from History is a bi-lingual reading (English and Telugu). This is a first-person performance of the lives, experiences and the challenges faced by women from history. The reading will be followed by a discussion.
