About The Event
– Andrea Bendewald Rouse, Suddenly Susan actor and creator of The Art of Circling,
headlines Voices HEaRd on Friday, February 24, at 8:00 p.m. -at Woodford Theatre. In collaboration with
Eve Ensler’s One Billion Rising 2017 Campaign, the Voices HEaRd event brings together performing and
visual artists to raise their voices against violence against women and the many challenges girls and
women of all ages face. All event proceeds will support The Girl Project and Green House17.
“We plan to start small this inaugural year with one performance at Woodford Theatre,” said Vanessa
Becker Weig, director of Voices HEaRd and co-founder of The Girl Project. “Our vision and plan for the
future is to grow and become a fully developed and produced artistic festival, much like The Women’s
Voices Theater Festival in Washington, DC.”
The performance will include original work from more than 20 groups and artists from across Kentucky,
including Andrea Bendewald Rouse, Agape Theatre, Donna Ison’s The Broad Brigade, Looking for Lillith,
and Allegro Dance Company. Voices HEaRd has been given the rights from Maya Angelou’s estate to
share Phenomenal Woman and Still I Rise. Now more than ever, men and women alike need to make
their voices HEaRd. This empowering performance event will leave your eyes open and your soul
inspired.
