About The Event
Our V-Day rising will be held at a location in this city, to be announced NLT January 30. We will Dance, Drum, RISE for revolution, in unison, with women and men veterans in all 50 states, and Washington, D.C. We invite women, men, dancers and drummers, civilian, active duty, guard, reserve, enlisted, officer, veteran, Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard to join us in our plight. Four dance classes will be held at various locations throughout this city between February 1 and February 14, 2015.
After the first class, participants will decorate a Battle Dress Uniform shirt (BDU or Fatigue) via instructions from the Fatigues Clothesline Project. Dancers will do this as a means of expressing the impact of rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, retaliation, stigmatization, and isolation, that reporting these crimes often brings on the servicemember victims. The "Fatigues" will be worn by participants during the dance.
In addition, each participant will submit their names for "A Black Rose" which will be ceremoniously presented to key public figures in Washington, on V-Day. And finally, each participant will be offered the opportunity to sign a letter, appealing to our Congress, to exact real reforms surrounding military justice, as a part of the 26,000 Letter Project. The number 26,000 signifying the approximate number of victims of these crimes, reported through anonymous surveys, during 2012 alone.
Please join us in our Facebook Group One Billion Rising V Day 2015 For Military Sexual Assault, where you can volunteer to host an event in your city, and meet with other veterans and military who are participating in one of our more than 50 affiliate events. Your support is appreciated! May God Bless America!
About The Organization
Veteran Empowerment Team USA
"Uniting defenders to stop military rape, sexual assault, harassment, and domestic violence through real reform."
VET USA believes veterans are people who have gone above and beyond, and deserve adept consideration, after defending this nation. We aim to bring out of the shadows, women and men, victims of rape, sexual assault, harassment, and domestic violence, while serving in our armed forces. Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine, and Coast Guard, servicewomen, especially, struggle to self identify for the honorable service they rendered protecting this nation.
This should not be. Together, we can create change.
We are a team of national advocates, with proven track records for helping to bring about military sexual trauma policy reform, and reforms regarding military and veteran civil rights, in general.
Our desire is to share the healing power raising voices for change has brought to our lives, and to those we love.
