About The Event
This informal collective of some of the Byron Shire’s many powerful and creative women has gathered to share their own personal stories about the most intimate area of a woman’s body: her vagina.
This show is a part of the global revolution of V-Day, to end violence against women and children around the world.
Fresh from the early morning Main Beach flashmob dance at 7.30am Sunday 14th, the women will be using poetry, spoken word, song, comedy, and even puppetry to share their experiences, and inspire communication and connection.
Vagina ConversatiOns is funny, sad, exciting, challenging, and celebratory, and is a more contemporary evolution of the well known ‘Vagina Monologues’, bringing a fresh local flavour and a courageous empowering evening to our own community.
Generously sponsored by the Byron Community Centre, all proceeds will go to support the Women’s Resource Service Escape Fund, which supports between 80-90 women a year from Byron Shire escaping from intimate partner and family violence. The Escape Fund finances women in crisis to pay for emergency accommodation, get locks changed, keeps women and children safe etc. Approximately 100 women have been murdered in the last 12 months by their intimate partners.
