About The Event

One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. On 14 February 2013, people across the world came together to express their outrage, strike, dance, and RISE in defiance of the injustices women suffer, demanding an end at last to violence against women. Last year, on 14 February 2014, One Billion Rising for Justice focused on the issue of justice for all survivors of gender violence, and highlighted the impunity that lives at the intersection of poverty, racism, war, the plunder of the environment, capitalism, imperialism, and patriarchy. Events took place in 200 countries, where women, men, and youth came together to Rise, Release, and Dance outside of court houses, police stations, government offices, school administration buildings, work places, sites of environmental injustice, military courts, embassies, places of worship, homes, or simply public gathering places where women deserve to feel safe but too often do not. The campaign was covered widely by media in all corners of world including The New York Times, The Guardian, NPR, and many more. This year, we are bringing attention to these issues by offering an empowering Laughter Yoga/Dance experience here in our community, in Media, PA . This event is FREE and open to all. Please join us for some healing and restorative laughter and expressive dance! We are going to turn up the music and have some fun! Please join us for FREE Dancing and empowering/healing Laughter Yoga from 2-4 pm . Wear comfortable clothing and bring a bottle of water and blanket/or yoga mat.

What is Laughter Yoga?
Laughter Yoga is a unique concept where anyone can laugh for no reason without relying on jokes or comedy.
How do you practice it? We initiate laughter as an exercise in a group but with eye contact and childlike playfulness. It soon turns into real and contagious laughter.
Why is it called Laughter Yoga? The reason we call it Laughter Yoga is because it combines laughter exercises with yoga breathing. This brings more oxygen to the body and to the brain which makes you feel more energetic and healthy.
Really? The concept of Laughter Yoga is based on scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter if done with willingness. You get the same health benefits.
The history behind Laughter Yoga: It was started by a medical doctor, Dr. Madan Kataria from India with just five people in a Mumbai park in 1995. Today there are more than 6000 Laughter Yoga Clubs in more than 72 countries. In 2015, Laughter Yoga will celebrate it's 20th Anniversary.
In addition to social Laughter Clubs, Laughter Yoga is also practiced in companies and corporations, fitness centers, yoga studios, senior centers and homes, rehab centers, hospices, shelters, schools, colleges, universities, cancer centers, prisons, day care centers etc.
