About The Event

Unsilent :: Survivors Speak is an evening of poetry & spoken word featuring Kyndall Rae Rothaus and Jenuine Poetess with special guest performances by: Liz Ligawa, Stefanie Mundhenk, Sha'rol Henning, and Audrey Hamlin, hosted by emcee, Saddiq Granger. #courageiscontagious Limited spaces for open mic sign-ups will be availabe at 9:15pm at the Hippodrome (1 piece per person, up to 2 minutes). This event is FREE and open to the public. There will be an opportunity to make a donation the proceeds of which will go to the Family Abuse Center and the Advocacy Center of Waco, two local organizations providing services and support for children and adults who are recovering from sexual assault and family abuse. Unsilent :: Survivors Speak is designed to hold safe space for survivors to tell their stories, in poetry and spoken-word; to raise awareness about the issues of interpersonal violence, abuse, and assault in our communities; to inspire action in breaking silence, disrupting cycles of abuse, and to transform policy; and to empower resilience among survivors and allies.

WPS believes that creative health is a matter of justice and organizes to effect change in neighborhoods throughout our community using the arts as a catalyst for personal and collective transformation.

Jenuine Poetess & Kyndall Rae Rothaus

Jenuine Poetess is the founder of Waco Poets Society and of ITWOW International--a global writing circle project for womyn with chapters in Los Angeles, Texas, and Lebanon. As a written & spoken-word artist who dabbles in other creative expressions, she lives rooted in the fierce conviction that fostering the creative health of individuals & communities is a matter of justice. Jenuine currently writes and creates in Central Texas where she enjoys finding artful ways to disrupt the homeostasis and empowering herself and others to give sound to our story and volume to our voice.
