About The Event
Allegheny College's Swing and Social Dance organization partners with other organizations geared towards equality and their local women's shelter, Women's Services Inc., to host a forum on both local and systemic problems concerning women's rights, as well as to celebrate progress for equality with free swing dancing lessons. This event is planned as Meadville, PA's contribution to the 1 Billion Rising Campaign. Voluntary donations will be accepted at the door to benefit Women's Services (www.womensservicesinc.org/aboutus.php) with suggested donation of $5. Baked goods (vegan and gluten-free as well) will be sold at the door with proceeds to benefit WSI. This is an open event. Formal dress suggested, but not required.
This will be a safe space for the night for anyone looking to discuss challenges facing women's rights, celebrate our success so far, and plan out how they can best contribute to a movement of over one billion rising for justice.
About The Organization
Women's Services Inc,
Women's Services strives to meet the needs of children and adults of Crawford County who are in crisis due to domestic violence, sexual violence or homelessness, by developing and offering programs and services that meet those needs. Honoring the roots of the organization, we place special emphasis on the needs of women and children.
As an organization, Women's Services strives to exemplify and promote a feminist philosophy in all activities. At the heart of this philosophy is the belief that each individual has the right and responsibility to be self-determining and to make decisions that are appropriate for their life. Each individual knows what is best for their life.
