About The Event

SEITY performance company is creating a once-off performance art event - scORe - at the Plat4orm as part of the ONE BILLION RISING CAMPAIGN. This performance will trace elements of violence within relationships and echo how this violence may resonate in various couple's lives.

SEITY is a performance company (SEITY means ‘with something peculiar to one self ’) formed by Janine Lewis and Melodie Schoeman in 2005. SEITY strives to present original exciting collaborative performances with established professional artists, performance artists, and physical theatre performers.

Janine Lewis & Melodie Schoeman

JANINE LEWIS – currently a lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology Department of Drama. Janine holds a Doctoral degree in Drama specializing devising, performance and montage. Specialisations include Physical Theatre; contemporary Acting and directing/devising of public productions. Janine has conceptualised and directed 17 successful public productions the most current including: Animal Farm (2012); In our blood (2011); rend[h]er (2010); Batho Botlhe (a)morality play (2009); (in)flux (2008); Atalanta (2007). Lewis has worked with Augusto Boal, 1997; master classes with Anne Bogart and SITI company in Viewpoints and Suzuki training 2007 and 2008; Dutch collaboration with Het Waterhuis (2001-2004) and Toneel Academie Maastricht (2006); International teaching at Ohio State University USA and the Hunter Gates Physical Theatre Academy Edmonton Canada; as well as participated in various rural education and national and international projects in social theatre practices.

MELODIE SCHOEMAN currently works as a Project Manager at an Events company: O’vation Audience Relationship team. Melodie finished her B-Tech Degree in Drama at Tshwane University of Technology in 2002, specialising in Physical and Educational Theatre. After her studies she was granted a bursary from the Hunter Gates Academy of Physical Theatre in Alberta, Canada (2005 – 2006). Once back in South Africa she worked mostly as Production Manager for various TV programs: ‘Blikskottel’ – 13 Episode comedy series produced for kykNET; ‘Adrenalien’ - 13 Episode Adventure Series produced for kykNET.

As performance artists both create site-specific solo and collaborative pieces with a variety of performers, fine artists and digital artists under the performance company SEITY. Previous performances include: Men and Myoma ; More; Anima/us; Panda - Ode to Jan; Fluid/s; Dikker as Water; So?seity; Walking with Water; Patterns outside my head; UnITEa?; and Violent Echoes.
