V-Day SDSU is part of the larger international organization called V-Day, a global activist movement. This movement aims to, "end violence against all women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence), girls and the planet." At SDSU, we are a recognized student organization. Our mission is to embody and help accomplish the goals of V-Day on our campus and in our communities. We strive to constantly empower and be empowered by each other.
Our work is grounded in four key beliefs: Art has the power to transform consciousness and inspire people to act, lasting social and cultural change is spread by ordinary people doing extraordinary things, local women best know what their communities need and can become unstoppable leaders, and one must look at the intersection of race, class, and gender to understand violence against women.
Each year V-Day SDSU fundraises money throughout the semester, which in entirely donated to a beneficiary of our choosing. This year, we have chosen to donate all the fundraised money to social change organization, Shakti Rising.
