On Sunday, February 12th 2017 New Hampshire’s professional dance community will return to the stage of The Music Hall, Portsmouth NH in a spectacular evening of performance in the One Billion Rising Gala in support of HAVEN NH.
Presented by Neoteric Dance Collaborative, a Seacoast based multi-disciplinary dance company, the evening of dance continues the success of the 2016 event which brought together 50+ performers for an evening of BRAVERY, STRENGTH and CELEBRATION.
“This year we are looking at 100 years of feminism,” explains Neoteric’s artistic director, Sarah Duclos. As with each year, the One Billion Rising organization drafts a prompt from which grassroots advocates across the globe create dance works. This year activists around the world are rising in solidarity against the exploitation of women. “Exploitation occurs in many different ways - financial, physical, emotional, geographical and through limitations on education, health and housing,” continues Duclos. “By looking at the challenges and triumphs of the American feminist movement we hope to shed light on the exploitations that women have faced, and what they still face today.”
Joining Neoteric’s dancers onstage will be Annex Contemporary Dance Company, Lissa Curtis with dancers from Northeastern Ballet Theatre, Seacoast West African Dance, SONARdance and the recipient of the Bates Dance Festival's 2016 Emerging Choreographers Residency, Junichi Fukuda. The evening will also support and showcase the next generation of dancemakers including students from Arts in Reach, New England Dance Project and Phillips Exeter Academy.
Tickets are on sale now, with both general admission and a special VIP ticket available. The VIP experience includes a pre-show gathering with the choreographers and gifts and goodies from supporting businesses.
