Bulgaria is rising for revolution in 2016 with launching again a major national media campaign, in which the Society for Justice Foundation, Theater 199 "Valentin Stoichev, the New Bulgarian University (NBU) and the Bulgarian National Television (BNT) partnered to produce special television campaign videos involving prominent Bulgarian women cultural and political figures rising together to end violence against women and girls. Among them are: the Mayor of Sofia, Ms Yordanka Fandakova, the Member of the European Parliament, Ms Mariya Gabriel, the original cast of the "Vagina Monologues" at Theater 199 - Tsvetana Maneva, Snezhina Petrova and Vyara Kolarova. The television campaign videos will be shown several times a day on the Bulgarian National Television starting on 8 February 2016. The campaign "One Billion Rising :: Revolution - Bulgaria" is supported by more than 40 leading Bulgarian women’s rights, human rights and humanitarian organizations and activists in Sofia and elsewhere in the country. The media campaign will continue all through February and March 2016. On 8 March 2016, "One Billion Rising - Bulgaria" will co-organize with other partners the annual Bulgarian event "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes", in which men will walk through the streets of Sofia wearing high-heel shoes to campaign to end violence against women. In March 2016 we will mark the 15th anniversary from the first V-Day in Bulgaria in 2001, when activists gathered from different Balkan countries in Sofia, joined by Eve Ensler, to support the Bulgarian activists and the Bulgarian performance of the “Vagina Monologues” at Theatre 199, which the government was threatening to close down. To mark this anniversary, in March 2016 we will organize an OBR event in Sofia called “Justice for Women – Here and Now”. The media campaign will continue through March 2016 with women’s rights activists and partner organizations, as well as prominent Bulgarian cultural and political figures participating in television programmes on the Bulgarian National Television to discuss strategies to end violence against women and girls. A special theatre performance prepared by the University Theatre of the New Bulgarian University will be shown in different cities in Bulgaria supported by Society for Justice Foundation.
„Един Милиард Се Изправят: Революцията продължава – България 2016“ – кампания в подкрепа на всички жени и момичета, жертви на насилие. За трета поредна година Фондация „Общество за Справедливост“, съвместно със своите основни партньори Българска Национална Телевизия BNT 1, Theatre 199 "Valentin Stoychev" и Нов Български Университет, се включват в световната кампания One Billion Rising (www.onebillionrising.org) (Един Милиард Се Изправят), насочена срещу насилието над жени и момичета. Инициативата „Един Милиард Се Изправят-България :: One Billion Rising Bulgaria" се подкрепя от повече от 40 водещи български женски, правозащитни и хуманитарни организации, представители на национални институции, видни общественици, хора на изкуството и журналисти, а също и активисти от София и страната. В световен мащаб кампанията е инициирана от движението „V-DAY“, основано от американската писателка и активистка Ева Енслър. Тя е позната в България с пиесите си „Монолози за вагината” и „Доброто тяло”, поставени от Театър 199 „Валентин Стойчев”. Основател на кампанията в България през 2001 г. и неин основен представител е Фондация „Общество за справедливост”. През настоящата юбилейна 2016 г се отбелязват 15 години от организирането на първия V-DAY в България от Фондация “Общество за Справедливост” в лицето на правозащитничката Марияна Кацарова, в подкрепа на поставената за първи път в България пиеса “Монолози за вагината” на сцената на Театър 199, под ръководството на нейния тогавашен директор Валентин Стойчев – постановка, която се превърна в символ на подкрепата на всички жени и момичета, жертви на насилие. През 2016 година кампанията ще се проведе в България през периода м. февруари – м. март. Тя ще включва излъчване на тематични клипове по БНТ 1 през периода 8 – 28 февруари 2016. През м. март 2016 година предстои провеждане на публична дискусия в София на тема "СПРАВЕДЛИВОСТ ЗА ЖЕНИТЕ – ТУК И СЕГА", участие в телевизионни предавания, представяне на тематична театрална постановка в различни градове на България.

Mariana Katzarova
Mariana Katzarova has been involved with V-Day since 2000, when she helped bring the “Vagina Monologues” to Bulgaria, to be performed for the first time at Theater 199 in Sofia. In 2001, Mariana organized the first V-Day in Bulgaria, which brought together in Sofia women activists from all Balkan countries, as well as Eve Ensler, who came to support the play and the Bulgarian activists. In 2014, Mariana (Society for Justice Foundation) organized the event "Justice for Women in Bulgaria" - One Billion Rising Bulgaria in partnership with Theater 199 "Valentin Stoichev" and the New Bulgarian University, which was supported by more than 40 leading Bulgarian human rights, women's rights and humanitarian organizations and activists in Sofia and other cities. In February 2015, Mariana initiated the rising in Bulgaria "One Billion Rising :: Revolution - Bulgaria", in which Society for Justice Foundation partnered with the Bulgarian National Television, Theatre 199 "Valentin Stoichev" and the New Bulgarian University to produce a major national media campaign to stop violence against women, supported by leading Bulgarian organisations, cultural and political figures and activists around the country. Since March 2014 Mariana Katzarova has been working with the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine.
