About The Event

#1BillionRising activists are ready to RISE in Minsk! For the first time in Minsk, we will publicly dance against gender-based violence. The One Billion Rising dance flashmob will commence on February 14, 2020 at 19:00 on the ground level of STALITSA shoping mall. One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign, which launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering UN statistics that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. This is approximately ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS worldwide. The action started in 2012, and since then women from more than 200 countries have joined it. The international action was held in Minsk since 2016, and only this year we managed to get permission to conduct it in a public space. Last year, a flash mob was planned to be held in the Dana Mall, but the event was forbidden. This year the organizers are NGO “Center for the Promotion of Women's Rights - Her Rights” and the campaign March, babe!. Over the years, the organizers of the flash mob were various feminist organizations and initiatives, including the Radislava and the social sports project Zdolnaya.

About The Organization

NGO “Center for the Promotion of Women's Rights - Her Rights” and the campaign March, babe!

Founded in February 2016, the Center for Promotion of Women’s Rights – Her Rights is a Belarusian non-profit organization whose mission is to help build a better and more just world for both women and men. One of the most important organizational goals is to help women protect and promote their rights and interests in order to build a more democratic society based on equal opportunities. One of the main activities of the organization is to provide free and confidential legal help for women who face gender violence and discrimination. Special attention is paid to the problem of domestic violence: Seventy percent of our participants’ appeals are directly connected to the problem of domestic violence. Women from all the regions of Belarus can address the legal helpline and get legal information and assistance. The group values non-discrimination, gender equality; respect for human rights, and the people they work together with and for.

March, babe! campaign started on Oct 5, 2018 in Belarus when the concept of the law on combating domestic violence was criticised by Belarusian president A.Lukashenko on media after strong lobbyist campaign of anti-gender organizations. We unite many activists who are collecting signatures, talking to decision makers, running creative interventions and performances in Belarus to keep the issue of domestic violence high on the agenda and advocate for the law.
