THE 2016 CAMPAIGN
1 in 3 women across the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. That’s ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.
Every February through March 8th, thousands of Risings take place in hundreds of countries across the world and within local communities – to show the world what one billion looks like and shine a light on the rampant impunity and injustice that survivors of various forms of violence face.
People around the world rise through dance to express rage against injustices, and the power of global solidarity and collective action. They dance to express joy and community and celebrate the fact that together, violence can be defeated.
They rise to show a determination to create a new kind of consciousness – one where violence will be resisted until it is unthinkable.
IN 2016, WE ARE ESCALATING THE CALL FOR REVOLUTION.
About The Organization
Tribe of Doris
We are a 'not for profit' community and cultural arts organisation based in Bristol. We run a number of projects and Bristol Wow (Women of the world) is one of them.
Bristol Wow is a group of diverse women from different backgrounds, cultures and ages and we welcome ALL women. We meet usually once a month, hold exhibitions, organise outings to the theatre, cinema and dancing. It provides a friendly, social space for women to network, share skills, connect, collaborate and have fun. Most events are women only, children welcome but boys under 12 years only. With the kind support of partners Coexist we have free use of space for our meeting and events at Hamilton House and a group of hard working willing volunteers who help organise/manage various events on behalf of Wow.
The Tribe of Doris Vision is:“A world sharing and celebrating its cultural differences and its human similarities through the joy of the arts”
The Tribe of Doris Mission Statement is: “Creating opportunities for cultural understanding and a sense of belonging through music, dance, song and ceremony from around the globe”
As well as our well known and highly respected Summer School, for over 20 years we have hosted drum camps, city events and workshops in the South West and beyond. We also regularly contribute to major festivals such as Shambala and Sunrise. Together we learn, teach, participate and enjoy, immersing ourselves in a unique community experience.
