The Nelson and District Women’s Centre provides space, support, and resources for women to learn, connect, and become empowered in their own lives and engaged in their community.
Mandate:
a) To provide resources, education and support to women
b) To partner with other organizations which have similar objectives as the West Kootenay Women’s Association
c) To operate as a charitable organization in supporting and promoting the welfare of all women in the West Kootenay who are in need of help
d) To address issues of poverty and alienation that affect women in the West Kootenay region
Our services include a drop-in and referral centre; counselling; a library of female authors; free internet and computer service; a free store of clothing, toiletries and household items; a secure mailing address; shower, bathing and kitchen facilities; and free food including fresh produce from our garden. In addition, the West Kootenay Women’s Association offers an online historical archive, various support groups and a number of annual community events.
