About The Organizer

Shannon Murree, Activist

Shannon Murree is a volunteer and activist with a strong desire of inspiring everyone to help bring awareness and end violence in the community and all aspects whether men, women or children. Being a survivor and avid supporter of equality, encourages the involvement for all in the Community - men, women and children to spread awareness and "Be the Change you wish see" in the world. It all starts with each individual to influence, inspire and encourage.

In being a local activist in her Community and successfully organized successfully with the support of the Community and Media in 2013, is happy to return and organize another year. Shannon has been awarded by the City of Barrie's greatest honour of "Spirit Catcher" award 2013 for her involvement and infectious spirit of influencing the community around her to make it better.

It is important to note the organizer is an advocate for women and children's rights and not an employee of the Barrie Women and Children's Shelter and strictly a volunteer. Opinions stated are hers alone and do not represent any agency or employer. Ultimately, the goals are to help empower everyone to share their personal story, effect change and assist the shelter in funding for transitional housing.
