About The Event
Join us in the One Billion Rising: Rise for Revolution. One Billion Rising is the biggest mass action to end violence against women in human history. The campaign, launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.
The plan is to bring together local organizations and community members to perform the “Break the Chain” dance as one large group on March 5th, 2016 in Flemington borough around 5:30pm. We are inviting school groups, sports teams, churches, fitness centers and everyone who is interested in helping to end violence against women. We are also interested in having young men represented in the call to end violence.
By joining us in this effort, you are bringing awareness to the global issue of violence against women. You are joining in community, creating dialogue and creating space to talk about this issue. You are helping youth learn to stand up to violence and to become more aware of the problems we have in the world and how we can begin to solve them in community.
So how can you join in the movement? Grab a few friends, family or community members and pledge to join us on Saturday March 5th to perform “Break the Chain”. Plan a “Learn the Dance” party or gathering with your friends so you can help each other learn. This will be fun! Please check out the website OneBillionRising.org to find out more about this international effort to end violence against women. Click on Actions > Toolkit > View The Video Series Guide to view the video with instructions on how to learn the dance.
You can also join on us to “Learn the Dance” and to create posters and t-shirts to amplify the mission on Saturday, February 20th at 3pm at A Life In Balance Yoga at 1 Stangl Rd in Flemington.
