About The Event
We came together in February to support the One Billion Rising for Justice (VDay) campaign.
The Creative Communities Group [CCG] has organised the Preston event for participants to join in the Break the Chain’ dance at the same time as other One Billion events around the globe since 2013 in a show of solidarity and support.
The Preston gathering has grown in popularity every year and the 2026 event was the biggest yet.
Over 100 visitors attended the event held in the University of Lancashire student union [SU] Atrium building
We had performances by the salsa northwest dances, the samba drummers and the local vocals choir.
The visiting audience also listened to powerful speeches delivered by Councillor Sue Whittam the Mayor of Preston, the Reverend Claire Mcenery and Karen Livesey No Whispers CIC
I would like to thank our Creative Communities Group volunteers and my event partner Jayn Pearson [Project Officer Criminal Justice Partnership]
Thank you to the University of Lancashire Student Union, the School of Law and Policing, LIS, Security, the press office, the events team and facilities management.
And a special thank you to all the community members who came along to sing, dance and shout in solidarity to raise awareness and support our annual one billion rising campaign.
The event would not have been successful without all your much appreciated help and support.
Russell Hogarth CCGUK Chair.
It is important to highlight this campaign to end violence against women and girls.
I enjoyed being part of this global movement where we came together to clap, sing and dance for change.
It was truly uplifting and gave hope that one day the violence will stop.
I am proud to stand with our city, our communities, the University of Lancashire, the Creative Communities Group members to support this global campaign. –
Well done to the CCG organisers and especially Russell Hogarth for bringing this event to Preston. Mayor of Preston Councillor Sue Whittam
