About The Event
Dance the spirit of Mardi Gras as we RISE up against violence against women. For the past two years, the One Billion Rising event has brought people together from all over the world to bring light into the darkness on February 14, V-Day!
Dance is one of the most powerful forces on the earth and we have only just begun to tap into where it can take us.The struggle of humanity is the struggle to return to our bodies. Dancing allows us to come back into our bodies as individuals and community and a world. It connects our feet to the earth and inspires us to move to her rhythms. It allows us to go further, to include everyBODY, to tap into a revolutionary and poetic energy which is inviting us to release more of our wisdom, our self love.
Kate Finlayson, a First Degree Nia Black Belt teacher and a Nia Education Trainer, is a survivor of rape, incest and domestic violence. She learned to love her body through creative and expressive movement and empowers others to do the same in the self-healing practice of Nia. The Joy of Nia creates a safe, supportive canvas to move to beautiful music in your own unique way. Celebrate THE POWER OF LOVE with community and Rise with us at the Red Shoes!
