About The Event

One Billion Rising National Juried Art Exhibition. Open February 1-24th, 2016. Reception February 4th 5-8pm-Awards at 6pm. Artists Arise! Polk State College is hosting our National Biennial Juried Art Exhibition in reaction to the staggering facts regarding violence against women and girls. One Billion Rising is named for a troubling statistic, that one in three women, or an estimated 1 billion women, will be physically abused in her lifetime .The gallery will display artwork that has been juried in from all over the country. Submissions were curated by the Polk State College Art Faculty and Judged by the Executive Director of the Polk Museum of Art, Claire Orologas. This exhibition displays artworks that expose both the stories of violence and also the victories in overcoming violence. You will see stories of struggle, empowerment, and victory. Emerging and professional artists will be exhibited and the work will display Women's Rights and ending violence against women, from every perspective. All entry fees and sales go to benefit the Women’s Resource center and Peace River center equally. Artist receives 70% for any sales. 30% of sales and entry fees will be a donated to The Women’s Resource center of Florida and Peace River Center Domestic Violence Services equally.
