Serving as the voice of women in the Marshall Islands, the primary goal of WUTMI is to support and strengthen Marshallese women, and in so doing, to strengthen Marshallese families. WUTMI seeks to promote and provide activities that preserve and strengthen the values of traditional Marshallese culture as well as addressing the realities of modern life in the islands.
Violence against women and girls has been identified as a significant violation of women’s human rights in the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). Responding to the support needs of women and children experiencing gender-based violence, and facilitating access to the protections of the new Domestic Violence Prevention and Protection Act 2011 (DVPPA), have emerged as key areas of development for WUTMI. Therefore, together with Australian Aid, WUTMI has established Weto in Mour: Violence Against Women and Girls Support Service to prevent and intervene in violence against women and girls throughout the RMI.
