About The Event

February 14th is International End Violence Against Women Day, or One Billion Rising, the biggest mass action to end violence against women, based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. This year for One Billion Rising, GABRIELA Seattle will highlight Filipino women's struggles against exploitation and stand in solidarity with women around the world. Join us for GABRIELA Seattle’s one-night musical production, “Maalaala Mo Kaya? Isulong!” (“Would you remember? Onward!”) in partnership with Women Who Rock. Inspired by the longest running drama anthology in Philippine Television, Maalaala Mo Kaya the play follows OFW Maritess as she leaves behind her family in the Philippines to seek livelihood in the United States. The play written by GABRIELA Seattle members shows the harsh reality of forced migration and worker exploitation experienced by the 6,000 Filipinos leaving the Philippines everyday. “Maalaala Mo Kaya? Isulong!” Saturday, Feb, 11th 3pm to 8pm Ticket Pricing: Sliding Scale. Children under 12 are free. Childcare available upon request. Location: Washington Hall (153 14th Avenue Seattle, Washington 98122)
