1 in 3 women will be beaten or raped in their lifetime (U.N.): that is 1 Billion Women and Girls. Eve Ensler (of Vagina Monologues fame) started One Billion Rising in 2013 to bring awareness to this fact and to join in solidarity to end the exploitation of women and girls. .https://www.onebillionrising.org/about/campaign/
AWEinc http://www.puttingwomeninpower.com/ in sisterhood with My Sister http://www.mysister.org/ and Cornerstone http://cornerstonemn.org/ are partnering in solidarity to bring awareness, embrace dialogue, and inspire solidarity for the end of the exploitation of women/girls.
Join us for a special edition of POWERhour. A safe space to rise, disrupt, and connect. Same format as always: Show up as you are. Drop in and out as you can. Donation based.
Proceeds will provide Solidarity Sacks to comfort the women who enter Cornerstone's emergency shelter. A Solidarity Sack will include new pajamas, a hand-written card, and fuzzy slippers to let her rest a little bit better and know she is not alone. A $25 donation ticket will gift a solidarity sack for a woman. $50 for two. $75 for three. You get the idea.
5.30-6.00pm. Connect with like-minded women and write cards to women who are staying in shelters.
6.00-7.00pm. 1BillionRising POWERhour: action based dialogue around violence/exploitation.
7.00-7.30pm. Candlelight vigil to honor the survivors + remember the victims + support those living in violence.
7.30-8.00pm. Connect with My Sister, Cornerstone, AWEinc, and fellow participants.
