About The Event
In Walthamstow, East London, Significant Seams, a community hub that brings people together through a range of knitting and sewing programmes, has teamed up with Stow Film Lounge to present a season of films celebrating 'Strong Women'.
Launching on 26th February with the screening of Girl Rising, a feature film about the power of education to change a girl's life, the season complements V-Day on 14th February and International Women's Day on 8th March.
Girl Rising tells the stories of nine girls from different parts of the world who overcome arranged marriage, poverty, slavery and prejudice to gain an education and rise above their personal circumstances.
Nine writers from each country tell the individual stories, with voice performances by A-listers Meryl Streep and Cate Blanchette among others.
About The Organization
