About The Event

Get Inked for One Billion Rising is an event to celebrate solidarity and strength. When people get inked, they tend to bring friends and loved ones along for the ride. It's a show of support and a time of bonding. This Valentine's Day, get inked with your friends and loved ones at Evil and Love Tattoo in Brooklyn. They will be having a flash sale, including Sailor Jerry flash ($15-$50). Steven Avalos, tattoo artist and owner, has also created custom flash just for this event. I'd like to encourage people to bring in artwork (paintings, drawings, photography) pertaining to female empowerment that we can display. (If you'd like to have your artwork displayed, please inbox me with the dimensions: [email protected]. The shop may have a limited amount of space so I'd like to plan the layout in advance.) If you prefer to write, I also encourage you to bring your pieces and read them. It's an open forum for you to express your thoughts and ideas. We have two amazing female Djs spinning for us: NYC's own DJ Anamated and singer/song-writer/DJ SoniWithanEye. Photography by the talented J Boogie Love. Hosted by the crew of KarlawithaKay.com/ (KwaK: an online lifestyle magazine for active, multi-passionate, socially conscious women living in urban, metropolitan cities in the United States) Suggested donation is $5. Purchase raffle tickets to win ONE year's subscription to Inked Magazine or Freshly Inked. All proceeds raised at this event (donations and raffle ticket sales) will go to Center Against Domestic Violence. http://www.cadvny.org/ Food + Drinks will be served. Must be 21 and over to attend. RSVP: [email protected]

About The Organizer

Myra Mendoza

I'm a food/drink, music/dance, beauty/style, art/design/tattoo enthusiast based in NYC. For me, I see tattoos as a symbol of endurance through pain. My koi fish ink symbolizes strength in the face of adversity and I got it after having gone through some struggles in life. I've experienced domestic violence first hand so it is an important issue for me. I'm a mommy to a wonderful 8yr old daughter and she's my reason to rise.
