About The Event
Feminist historian Geraldine Forbes visited Kolkata Sashtitala office, Apne Aap Women Worldwide's Munshiganj Centre along with her students from State University of New York. Our young girls, from our Kishori Mandal Self Empowerment Group (SEG), welcomed them with a dance performance followed by a meal prepared by our Self Empowerment Group - Sonar Bangla. We are proud of our survivor women who have set themselves free of modern day slavery and organized to set-up a sustainable means of earning their livelihood, the community kitchen in Munshiganj. The women in our Sonar Bangla SEG are a fine example of alternatives to dependency on the brothel system and a means of sustainable livelihood.
One woman said "Apne Aap gave us the confidence to start something on our own. The organization has taught us how one can achieve even what one hasn't even dreamt of if we act in a group. “
