About The Event
This is Bay Area Rising's fourth only-in-Oakland community performance ritual in conjunction with VDay's One Billion Rising movement! Building off of OBR's 2015 theme of "Revolution" ,'Evolution' says that -we are ready to move faster, stronger, and more confidently toward a world without violence. We follow the leadership of women in the Congo and elsewhere who are healing themselves and conjuring strong communities through the medicine of drum and dance.
World-class local performers and ritualists--gina Breedlove, Destiny Arts, Starhawk, Luisah Teish, Fat Chance Belly Dance, and many others--gather in a spiritual space to offer music, dance, spoken word, inspiration, dance to 'Break the Chain' and to raise funds for international and local organizations.

Bay Area Rising
Bay Area Rising is an all-volunteer team formed three years ago that is dedicated to the feminist principles of individual empowerment, collective action, and connecting the everyday to the sacred. By combining art, spirituality, and activism, we focus on a performance ritual dedicated to healing the violence against women and girls.
